About the STNY Flyers

The STNY Flyers AAU organization was founded in 2002 through the dedication of several local girls basketball coaches who shared a common vision of promoting girls youth basketball at all age and skill levels.

We have taken our name from the former Southern Tier semi-pro basketball team that once existed in our area. We focus on teaching young female athletes fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for the game, and the spirit of competition. Our organization is community supported and covers the entire Southern Tier of New York and a portion of the Northern tier of Pennsylvania. With the help of our volunteer staff, we have fielded competitive teams at the local, state, regional, and national levels.

Our Flyers Organization consists of a National Team and highly competitive age group teams.

Our National Team is the elite team of our organization.  This team competes successfully across the Eastern United States in showcase tournaments. These Tournaments are selected for participation to gain our Student /Athletes the opportunity to be scouted by coaches from Division I, II and III Colleges and Universities.  The STNY Flyers National Team has been the pathway for several athletes to gain Division I and II scholarships over its several years of existence.  This team is coached by very successful Broome Community College coach Mike Huggler.  Coach Hugglers teams at Broome have been nationally ranked and annually go deep into post season play. We eagerly challenge any female basketball player in the Southern Tier of New York or Northern Tier of Pennsylvania vying for a future basketball scholarship to combine her skills with the best in the area on the Flyers National Team, while focusing on the academic achievements necessary to be recruited by top colleges.

Following the example of the National team, we strive to put together the best skilled teams at each age group. These teams are coached by some of the most successful high school coaches in our area, along with some highly qualified volunteers.  Each Age-Group team is encouraged to pick the most competitive schedule of tournaments to challenge their skills.  These groups fill the need for the competitive athlete to step away from a neighborhood grouping and play with the highest level of competition provided in the area.
