STNY FLYERS COACHING PHILOSOPHY

This article is to insure that Parents and Coaches are aware of the coaching philosophy the Flyers want to present within their organization.

First, it is our intention to field teams with players that are near equal in talent to enable us to adhere to our philosophy.

Secondly, the players are paying to play and should receive near equal playing time in games and tournaments.  We do feel that games and tournaments are competitive situations in which winning is the optimum goal, but over the course of several games and tournaments, playing time should level out to be as equal as possible for all players who are showing dedication, sportsmanship,  and commitment.

In order to achieve both objectives, the coaches should see that equal playing time is achieved for the first ¾ of a game.  At the end of the third quarter, if the game is within reach of winning, the coach may play the players that they feel are best able to obtain the win.

Coaches should also look for an opportunity to give players who have not played at the end of very close and competitive games, a chance to gain more playing time in games that are not as competitive.

We also feel, due to the competitive nature of the AAU season, that the coaches should be able to take practices into consideration when making game decisions.  Coaches should consider if the player has fulfilled their obligation to the team by attending and fully participating in practices.

In stating this philosophy, it is the board’s recommendation that player’s, parent’s, and coaches’ concerns on this matter be settled in an expedient manner.  If a simple conversation between player and coach; or parent and coach; does not bring satisfaction, a board member should be contacted to rectify the situation.
